More plastidip trials. Redded out the chrome around the grill. I like it, but again plastidip has failed to impress me. Maybe it's my fault, actually it probably is, but there were some places that the tape bonded with the plastidip on the chrome, and so there's spots where the edges came up. I could cut the pulled up plastidip and press it back down, but there's a few spots where that wasn't enough and there's some chrome still showing.
In a day or two I'll try to locally fix some of the problems, but this is another project that basically said yes, I like the color, but no, plastidip isn't the way. I'm pretty sure the grill pieces can come out, so if I can figure out how to take them out I'll either paint them properly or do a vinyl wrap.

The trick is to take an x acto knife to the outside of the trim before you remove the tape.

Yeah, that would have been the smart way to do it. Oh well, when annoys me enough I'll redo it. I still have lots of tape, phonebook pages, and plastidip

Apparently you have to remove the tape while the dip is still wet. The easiest way I've heard of doing this is to put on a few layers of masking tape, and peel one off after each layer of plastidip.

I method I found that works well since you need to remove the tape while still wet. Use multiple layers of tape like visor tear offs. Also frog tape works a lot better than regular blue painters tape.

Interesting. I'll have to try that next time

Tradition doesn't clash, son.

Can you remove the trim? That way you can get a seamless coat that looks neat.

Maybe. I'm pretty sure I can remove the grill pieces at least, not sure about the trim.

Now, does any of this void the warranty?
I know some dealers are picky about stuff like that

It better not. I would be very angry if painting a decorative item voided a warranty.

I remember once when my dad's Passat had a problem with the rear window not rolling down properly, the dealer would'nt fix it becuase he had an aftermarket tint on it...
Some dealers are very picky.. I remeber when we put aftermarket tint on the foglights to our Honda Pilot, they didn't care though.. so it all depends on your dealer

Whenever I go into my dealer the service adviser is really cool and talks to me about mods I've done - he knows about the aftermarket exhaust, test pipe, etc. He told me about a guy who had a fully bolted mazdaspeed3 who blew it up at the drag strip, and they had a Mazda engineer come out to survey the damage, and they still ended up covering his warranty.
